BuzzFeed is the world’s leading independent digital media and tech company, with a cross-platform news and entertainment network that reaches hundreds of millions of people globally and spreads Joy and Truth across the internet.
Our portfolio of brands are household names that people rely on to inform and entertain, including: BuzzFeed, BuzzFeed News, Tasty, Nifty, Bring Me, Cocoa Butter, Pero Like, Worth It, and Unsolved to name a few! These properties and their Creators reach over 134M people a month through articles, lists, videos, animations, quizzes, podcasts, original series, newsletters and more.
BuzzFeed is looking for a strategic, creative, data-driven and business-minded leader (yes….we know that’s a lot!) to oversee the biggest and oldest area of content for its owned and operated properties — classic BuzzFeed lists. This person will serve as both the creative and operational lead for O&O content in this area (which does not include lifestyle, trending or celebrity news).
This leader will work with many teams across the company including Tech, Business/Sales, Audience Development, Social and Editorial, so they should also be collaborative, communicative and flexible, and ideally have direct experience working with multiple stakeholders and balancing many (sometimes conflicting) KPIs.
Because this is a role that includes both strategy and execution, this person should be able to think high-level but also be willing to get in the weeds and get things done. Their day-to-day tasks will be self-determined and dependent on the individual’s plan of action, so accountability and communication are key.
The three most important things we’re looking for in a candidate are: the ability to motivate creative people, experience using data to inform content strategy, and a genuine interest in driving — not just reacting to — internet culture. Success in this role will be measured in the short-term by audience growth, medium-term by format innovation and long-term by brand identity and strength.
- 6+ years of experience in digital media
- Actual content production and/or writing experience for a digital platform
- Experience leading a team of content creators
- A deep understanding of various output and growth strategies, namely for an owned & operated platform where monetization and dynamics vary widely from social platforms
- Strong project management and communication skills
- Comfort speaking publicly on behalf of the company and team
- Ideas about what BuzzFeed even is and what it should be
Don’t have all of these “ideal” qualifications, but still think you’re a great fit for the role? Apply anyway and tell us why in your cover letter!
All job applications must be received through the official BuzzFeed Jobs board (https://www.buzzfeed.com/about/jobs), including referrals. It is BuzzFeed’s practice to not schedule job interviews until after an application is submitted through our jobs board.
